Looking for the next big thing? Look no further than the car industry.
Following in the footsteps of VW, BMW and Jaguar Land Rover, American giant Ford became the latest carmaker to throw its hat into the tech ring, by announcing its new Innovation Hub at the former Olympic Park in East London.
The hub will be based at Here East, tapping into nearby talent from Loughborough University’s new campus and the rising number of startups in the area.

Car maker > ‘Mobility company’
Like many other brands, Ford wants to reposition itself as a ‘mobility company’.
Don’t worry – this awkward new industry term doesn’t mean Ford will be making electric scooters – it’s in response to changes like Uber and DriveNow, that created a world where many of us may never own a car.
During the launch of London Tech Week, Steven Armstrong, Ford’s European Head, also hinted at driverless cars and new trials of Ford’s electric Transit vans.
‘Mobility company’ may sound clunky, but there’s no doubting it – thanks to Uber, the world of cars is changing, fast, with London’s former Olympic Park playing a surprising new role in the car of the future.
