Special report on marketing

Make no mistake, marketing is more important than ever. Worldwide, over £400bn is spent on promoting the latest must-have ideas, and the industry continues to be turned upside down by digital.

With game-changing businesses like Facebook and Instagram becoming indispensable, marketing professionals have had to innovate, or risk being left behind.

Brands now have a smorgasbord of platforms on which to deliver exciting campaigns, and some are building their own for the first time like The Net Set, Net a Porter’s own social network. There are the Burberrys of the world, embracing everything from Snapchat to Periscope and engaging the crowds with interactive outdoor billboards, but this is just the beginning.

The Net Set is Net a Porter's smart take on social meets shopping.

A sign of the times, we’re getting tantalisingly close to the day when Facebook finally overtakes TV in terms of advertising spend.

It’s not all good news. Difficult questions have already been asked about Youtube – is it an advertising company or a video platform? And will the thousands of overnight celebrities stick with it or break away? We’ll be exploring in more detail and reveal the people making waves across this fast-paced industry.

Advertising Week Europe

With Advertising Week Europe kicking off in London next week, we’ll hear how the elite see the future unfolding.

The guest list includes Tinder founder Sean Rad, Google boss Matt Brittin and Facebook EMEA chief Nicola Mendelsohn, showing just how seriously digital leaders take the power of marketing.

Attendees will play with the cusp of emerging technology; we’ve already seen hit TV series Game of Thrones bring the buzz of virtual reality to its events, and businesses like Virtually Reality hope to help brands use VR to get even more creative with their campaigns.

How to Boss It Like…

We’ll be profiling the giants of the advertising world to find out how they fit so much into their busy schedules.

Don’t miss the insider’s view from Paul Frampton, CEO at Havas Media Group UK and Ireland, Lindsay Pattison (CEO, Maxus Worldwide), and Jeremy Waite (Head EMEA Digital Strategy, Salesforce), in our Boss It Like series coming up throughout the month.
