Watch out Tesla, there’s a new cat on the prowl.
Jaguar Land Rover’s long-awaited electric car was finally revealed to the world at the LA Motor Show.
And Jaguar’s new electric motor has Tesla firmly in its sights.
Rivaling Tesla
The clunkily-named I-Pace shares a lot of similarities with Tesla’s Model X. Both are family-friendly SUVs with futuristic interiors bursting with touch screens and technology.
The car you can see today is not for sale. The final model will launch in 2018, with the production specifications revealed later in 2017. But Jaguar says the concept you can see today isn’t a fantasy, it’s “a preview of a five-seat production car that will be on the road in 2018”.
Jaguar won’t officially comment on pricing, but the Times newspaper reports this new model will be on sale for around £60,000, putting it firmly in competition with Tesla’s range.
Battery technology means electric cars for all
Jaguar’s new battery technology got our attention. The company claims a range of between 220 and 300 miles putting it close to the kind of range most petrol drivers will be comfortable with.
Most will only need to charge the car once a week, making the I-Pace one of the first mass-market cars suitable for everyday commuters.
This model also promises to charge from 0 to 80% in just 90 minutes with a special fast charger.
Can Jaguar deliver on all its promises? We hope so.
Take a look around the Jaguar I-Pace concept:

The I-Pace shares a lot of similarities with Jaguar’s F-Pace SUV.

The futuristic interior mixes analogue dials with touch screens and Jaguar paw prints stitched into the seams of the seats.
